International Academic Partnerships

In addition to my experiences teaching at undergraduate level I have also worked for a leading education management company focussed on establishing and coordinating a range of academic partnerships between UK and Chinese Universities. Employed as both an International Visiting Lecturer, and latterly Associate Lecturer for Aberystwyth University, I have gained extensive experience teaching art at undergraduate level to students in China and preparing them for further study in the UK. These experiences have equipped me with a detailed insight and understanding of Fine Art higher education in China and the challenges facing students adapting to different cultural approaches.

Having taught a cohort of Chinese students at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic in spring 2020, I was in a unique position to experience the early months of the pandemic from both a western and eastern perspective. Over the course of a number of months students developed a range of visual responses to the theme of ‘Home’ and the domestic interior at a time when ‘isolation’ and ‘quarantine’ become global buzz words. The resulting student works responded overtly to the uncertain political climate in which they were made.
